In Thanh’s artworks, Hanoi’s history is reflected through its mossy ancient walls and roofs, modern architecture, and vibrant streets.
The paintings are on large canvas and boast impressive, intense colours.
Artist Van Duong Thanh brought to the exhibition a special artwork of herself from renowned painter Bui Xuan Phai.
Proceeds from the sale of two of Thanh’s paintings – “Huong hoa sen” (Lotus flower fragrance) and “Ky niem pho xua Ha Noi” (Memories of old Hanoi) – created during social distancing in the capital, were used to buy five tonnes of rice to help disadvantaged people in Phu Yen province.
The exhibition is a vivid illustration of the vitality of Hanoi and art, which were both able to rise above the pandemic./.
