According to statistics from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), 392,000 Indian tourists visited Vietnam in 2023, a significant increase from the 2019 figures.

Rajeev Kale from Thomas Cook India attributes this surge to improved flight connectivity, the convenience of e-visas, and the influence of social media. He highlights that Vietnam offers highly competitive packages at very attractive prices when compared to other Southeast Asian destinations.

“Vietnam holds appeal for a diverse range of tourist groups, from families with multiple generations to couples and groups of friends,” Kale added.

Recently, direct flights from Ahmedabad to Da Nang were introduced to cater to the growing demand from that region. By 2025, Kale anticipates a further increase in travel demand as flight frequencies from Ahmedabad continue to rise.

VietJet Air, since 2019, has been actively expanding its routes and direct connections to accommodate the rising number of Indian travelers. Currently, the airline operates 68 weekly flights between India and Vietnam, connecting key cities in both countries.

MakeMyTrip’s Chief Marketing and Business Officer, Raj Rishi Singh, noted a 17% year-on-year increase in searches for Vietnam. He attributed this growth to Vietnam’s affordability, relaxed visa regulations, and the increasing number of direct flights from India.

SD Nandakumar, President of SOTC Travel, emphasized Vietnam’s diverse attractions, ranging from cultural and historical sites to culinary delights, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant shopping scenes. He expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with VNAT to promote and sustain demand for Vietnam among Indian travelers, including exploring less-visited destinations such as the Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc, Hoi An, Sapa, and Con Dao.
