The La Phu communal house is dedicated to the third son of King Hung Due Vuong, who played a significant role in defending the nation against Chinese invaders. His death anniversary is commemorated with an annual festival, and every five years, a grand festival is held to celebrate the village’s Tutelary God’s birthday. A palanquin procession, involving three palanquins and a horse, is an integral part of this grand festival.
La Phu village is also known for its pig procession festival, held every year on the 13th day of the first lunar month. This festival honors General Tam Lang, a talented military leader and the third son of King Hung Due Vuong. The procession involves parading a specially raised pig, along with offerings of steamed sticky rice and other items, from the host’s house to the village communal house. The pigs selected for the procession must meet certain criteria and are given special care and attention by the whole village.
In addition to the religious and cultural activities, the pig procession festival also includes various sports and cultural activities such as folk games, music and dancing performances, and sports competitions. The festival lasts for three days, from the 10th to the 13th day of the first lunar month.
