To Hoang Khanh Lan, alongside teammates Hoang Thi Hang, Truong Thi Quynh, and Pham Minh Nhan, participated in the women’s master road race events, marking their debut on the continental stage.

Despite it being their first time competing at this level, the quartet of Vietnamese cyclists left a strong impression. Lan, in particular, showcased her prowess with a powerful sprint, earning the gold medal. Her teammates, Hang, Quynh, and Nhan, also put forth exceptional performances, each claiming bronze medals.

Lan’s gold adds to Vietnam’s medal tally at the 2025 Asian Road Cycling Championships, following veteran cyclist Hoang Hai Nam’s victory in the men’s individual time trial for athletes over 60 years old on February 8.

The Vietnamese contingent at the championships comprises five female cyclists, including Lan and her teammates, along with two male cyclists, and a youthful presence of 10 young riders.

The tournament, hosted in Thailand from February 7 to 16, gathers nearly 500 cyclists, including professional national teams, U23 and U18 youth squads, and senior athletes in the master events.

Serving as part of the Union Cycliste Internationale’s competition system, the event also acts as a preparatory platform for the upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian Games.

However, the Vietnamese cycling team encountered a significant setback during the tournament as their bikes and equipment were destroyed in a fire. They had to quickly adapt, borrowing bikes from the host country and other participating delegations. Fortunately, additional bicycles have been dispatched from Vietnam to provide further support.

An impressive showing by the Vietnamese cyclists, with Lan’s gold medal serving as a highlight. The team’s resilience in the face of equipment loss is commendable, and we wish them continued success in the remaining events.
