Crew No.3 of the Vietnamese tank team shot down four out of the five targets in the qualifying round of Group 1 of the “Tank Biathlon” event at Army Games 2022 in Moscow on August 20 (local time). The August 21 competition was the last chance for crew No3 to improve their performance in the qualifying round of Division 1 and secure a semi-final berth.

In their successful attempt, they reached the finish line after 29 minutes and 8 seconds, shooting down four out of five targets. This was also the best performance of the Vietnam Tank team in the Tank Biathlon. The result means the Vietnamese tank team has qualified for the semi-finals where they are expected to take on heavyweights.
The other two Vietnamese tank teams also achieved good results. Crew No.1 also destroyed four out of the five targets on August 13 and finished the race in 34 minutes and 50 seconds while Crew No. 2 also shot down four targets in 32 minutes and 21 seconds on August 16.
Tank crew No.3 performed well on August 21, helping the Vietnamese tank team, cruise to the semi-finals in Tank Biathlon, one of the competitions of the ongoing eighth International Army Games taking place in Moscow.
This year’s “Tank Biathlon” event attracted the participation of 61 crews from 21 teams divided into two groups. The first group consists of teams from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Venezuela, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, China, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia. The second comprises those from Abkhazia, Armenia, Zimbabwe, Iran, Laos, Mali, Myanmar, Syria, Sudan, Tajikistan, and South Ossetia.
The “Tank advance” contest at the Army Games 2022 attracted 21 teams, competing in 2 groups. Vietnam is in Group 1 with 9 other teams, from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Venezuela, Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, China, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia. Group 2 consists of 11 teams, from Abkhazia, Armenia, Zimbabwe, Iran, Laos, Mali, Myanmar, Syria, Sudan, Tajikistan and South Ossetia. The second and third crews of the Vietnam People’s Army tank team will enter the qualifying round on August 16 and 20, respectively. Teams in Group 1 compete in the qualifying round to select the top eight to enter the semi-finals. Group 2 teams compete in a round-robin format to progress. |
In the International Army Games 2021, the Vietnamese team competed in 15 competitions and hosted two events for the first time. The Vietnam People’s Army’s delegation secured one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals, and many individual awards, according to VNA.
Also, the Vietnamese team made its mark even in events that it participated in for the first time, including the Sea Cup, Meridian, Tactical Gunner, and Army of Culture. In the Sea Cup, Vietnam sent 015 Tran Hung Dao and 016 Quang Trung frigates to compete in Vladivostok city. The team won the silver medal, and achieved equal or higher results than the host team, Russia, in some events.
The Vietnamese team won the gold medal in the Sniper Frontier, beating 6 other teams. In Accident Area content, the team earned a silver medal, losing to Russia.
