THE HANOI TIMES — In a significant move to bolster conservation efforts, the Green Vietnam Biodiversity Conservation Center (GreenViet) has forged a partnership with Radisson RED Danang through a sponsorship and cooperation agreement. This collaboration aims to enhance biodiversity protection and foster environmental awareness in Danang, a vibrant coastal city in central Vietnam.

The conservation of wildlife is a collective responsibility, and Vietnam’s red-shanked douc langur, a critically endangered primate endemic to the Son Tra Peninsula in Danang, remains a central focus of these efforts.

Dubbed the “Queen of Primates,” the red-shanked douc langur is listed in Vietnam’s Red Book of Endangered Species, underscoring its vulnerable status.

As per the agreement, Radisson RED Danang will offer venues and resources to GreenViet, enabling them to conduct workshops, seminars, and events centered around environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. This support will significantly amplify GreenViet’s outreach efforts and engage more individuals in the crucial task of safeguarding the natural environment.

“The partnership with Radisson RED Danang empowers us to expand our conservation initiatives,” shared Tran Huu Vy, Director of GreenViet. “It exemplifies a model collaboration that not only promotes biodiversity protection but also instills a deeper sense of environmental stewardship within the community.”

The Son Tra Peninsula, often referred to as the lungs of Danang, serves as a vital habitat for the red-shanked douc langur. Its rich biodiversity and the langur’s unique ecological role highlight the peninsula’s immense natural value, warranting urgent and dedicated protection.

Demonstrating their commitment to conservation, the Danang authorities have, for decades, implemented extensive measures to safeguard the langurs and their habitat. Regular patrols, specially designed bridges for langur crossings, and initiatives to minimize human impact on the forests are all part of the city’s comprehensive conservation strategy. Additionally, awareness campaigns targeting residents and tourists are fostering a culture of respect for wildlife and the environment.

As a result of these collaborative efforts, the population of red-shanked douc langurs on the Son Tra Peninsula has flourished, reaching approximately 1,300 individuals. This success story stands as a testament to the region’s rich biodiversity and the unwavering dedication of the Danang government and its partners in preserving it.
