Hanoi played host to the unveiling of the Vietnam Semiconductor Innovation Centre (VSIC) and the FPT-ALCHIP semiconductor startup incubation space. The event was a collaborative effort between the National Innovation Centre (NIC), the Ministry of Finance, FPT Semiconductor (a subsidiary of FPT Corporation), and other technology partners.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Tam highlighted the role of VSIC and FPT-ALCHIP in supporting and connecting Vietnamese startups in the semiconductor arena. Additionally, it serves as a platform for universities, research institutes, and businesses to collaborate on fostering the future talent pool required by the industry.

According to NIC Director Vu Quoc Huy, this development aligns with the Party and State’s policy of driving progress in science, technology, and innovation. It also promotes public-private partnerships and cooperation between the state, academic institutions, and businesses to propel Vietnam’s semiconductor industry forward. This includes plans to train 50,000 semiconductor engineers and establish 100 chip design companies in Vietnam by 2025.

Tran Dang Hoa, Chairman of the Information System Corporation (FPT IS) and FPT Semiconductor, emphasized that the VSIC’s establishment is a significant milestone for the industry and underscores FPT’s dedication to fostering businesses, technology, and talent in this sector. He added that FPT aims to develop high-quality human resources to position Vietnam as a leading semiconductor hub in the region.

Peter Teng, Vice President of Alchip Technologies Limited, a strategic semiconductor partner of FPT Corporation, viewed the event as more than just the opening of a new office. He saw it as a gateway to unlocking potential and an opportunity to connect with Vietnam’s exceptional technical talent.

Deputy Minister Tam applauded the productive collaboration between NIC, FPT, and their partners in cultivating the semiconductor ecosystem. He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting businesses and partners, both domestic and international, in promoting the growth of Vietnam’s semiconductor industry.

The launch of the VSIC reflects a strong commitment from FPT Corporation, NIC, and their partners to establish a sustainable semiconductor ecosystem in Vietnam. The center will facilitate resource gathering, talent development, and startup support in the semiconductor sector. It is expected to enhance Vietnam’s integration into the global semiconductor value chain and establish the country as a regional hub for technology and innovation.

Recently, the Ministry of Finance has entrusted NIC with collaborating with leading domestic and international tech companies to offer scholarships and technical training for semiconductor students at approximately 40 Vietnamese universities.

NIC and FPT have also successfully attracted major global tech conglomerates from the US, Japan, Taiwan, and the Republic of Korea to explore investment opportunities in Vietnam, marking a significant step forward for the country’s semiconductor industry.
