The statue known as “Greeting Man” was presented by Namyangju Governor Cho Kwang Han in 2019, in honor of the strengthening of friendship and cooperation between the two cities. It was only recently received in Hue.

In response to the city of Hue’s request for protecting the cityscape, the 52-year-old South Korean sculptor Yoo Young-ho shortened his original design of a six-meter-tall sculpture to two meters. This allowed the sculpture to blend in with the surrounding cityscape.

After prolonged discussions, administrators in Hue decided to install a statue in 3-2 Park on the south bank of the city’s iconic Huong (Perfume) River. This park serves as the home of several buildings constructed with South Korean support. It is a prime location for the installation of the statue, as it is close to the cultural and historical heart of the city.

The project’s first statue was placed in South Korea in 2017 and it has since been brought to five countries, including the US, the UK, and Malaysia.

At home in October 2013, a “Greeting Man” was introduced near the Korean Demilitarized Zone in Haean, Yanggu County located in the northeast province of Gangwon. This new addition to the area has become an important symbol of peace and unity between the two countries. It serves as a reminder of the importance of communication and understanding between North and South Korea. The Greeting Man is a large statue that stands at approximately 60 feet tall and is made of bronze. It stands facing both North and South Korea, representing the desire for peace and friendship between the two countries. Relevant units recently unveiled a sculpture gifted by Namyangju City, located in the northwest of South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province, in Hue City, Thua Thien-Hue, in central Vietnam. The unveiling of the sculpture marks the culmination of a months-long endeavor to bring the gift into Hue City.
