The Vietnam Days Abroad 2023 event is an annual national promotion program, chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in accordance with the assignment of the Prime Minister. This program is designed to commemorate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and South Africa.

Hoang Huu Anh, deputy head of the department and head of the event’s organization board, stated that the program aims to introduce Vietnam’s land, people, and culture to the South African population. As part of Vietnam Days Abroad 2023, a series of workshops and forums on economic, trade, and investment promotion will be organized.

The event will feature various art performances and cultural exchange programs, with a special focus on showcasing Vietnamese culture. The primary objective of organizing the event in South Africa is to attract tourists and investors from South Africa to visit Vietnam and explore its potential, as the number of international arrivals from South Africa to Vietnam has been relatively low. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam welcomed around 5,000 travelers from South Africa annually. South Africa is considered one of Vietnam’s important trade partners in Africa.

In addition to South Africa, Vietnam Days Abroad 2023 will also be held in France and Japan in November and December, respectively, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and these two countries.

Nguyen Thi Yen, director at Dong Do Event and Performance Services JSC, mentioned that the art shows during Vietnam Days Abroad 2023 will captivate spectators with performances of traditional Vietnamese instruments like the meo flute and traditional dances like the lotus dance. There will also be a fashion show featuring costumes from the Nguyen Dynasty and a performance of southern folk music. Furthermore, international guests will have the opportunity to savor pho, a world-renowned Vietnamese dish.

The Vietnamese cultural space at the event will gather various artisans and young cultural practitioners to showcase Vietnamese crafts, such as lacquer art, Dong Ho folk painting art, and figurine art. Visitors will also have the chance to explore a collection of photos highlighting Vietnam’s diplomatic ties, heritage, landscapes, and people.
