The venue, located down Alley 5 on Tu Hoa Street in Tay Ho District, has recently risen to fame as an Instagram-worthy setting among young people thanks to a picturesque aisle with white walls leading to West Lake, as well as its view of the white houses erected in the middle of the lake.
However, local people seem to be more and more fed up with strangers coming to their neighborhood for photos and turning it into a dump.
“We cannot prohibit them from coming here to take photos, but they have turned this place into a noisy place with plastic cups, bags, and bottles scattered everywhere,” Phuong Lan, a resident, complained.
“I chose to live here because I enjoy taking in some fresh air from the lake but every time I go out for a walk, I step on trash.”
According to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters’ observation, the place often attracts many young photo seekers in the late afternoons.
People usually bring food and snacks then leave without taking the food containers with them.
“This is a public place. Sanitation workers will clean it up,” some responded when told to clean up after themselves.
“We often have to clean the place or we won’t have a space to sit for fishing, but no matter how much effort we exert on the cleaning, the litter keeps on coming,” said Hai, a 65-year-old resident in Tay Ho District.
“They dress up for their own beauty, but do not care about the beauty of the area,” he added.
“A photo of them can receive thousands of ‘likes’ on social networking sites, but what meaning does it make if they are trashing the place?” another resident commented.
