The Dong Thap Province Administration in southern Vietnam is set to host the 2023 Mango Festival from April 28 to May 1, featuring 18 diverse activities taking place before, during, and after the festival. Drawing in locals and visitors alike, this event promises to be an unforgettable celebration of the region’s beloved mangoes.
Provincial authorities held a press conference on Wednesday to reveal the details of an upcoming event that will showcase digital transformation applications designed to overcome the challenges faced by local farmers. The highlight of the event will be a display of these applications, illustrating how they can make life easier for farmers.
Eighteen exciting activities are planned before, during, and after the festival – providing something for everyone to enjoy!
These include a story-writing contest, a children’s drawing competition, a photography contest, an exhibition showcasing mango products and local specialties from Dong Thap, and familiarization trips to mango farming areas.
The festival will also feature two seminars discussing strategies to increase the value and promote the sustainable growth of the mango farming and tourism industries in the province. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the latest innovations and trends in the sectors, as well as how to capitalize on them. Additionally, they can gain insight into the potential challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. By the end of the sessions, participants will be well-equipped to make the most of the opportunities available in the mango farming and tourism sectors.
Some reporters at the press briefing asked if the festivals in Dong Thap have lived up to authorities’ expectations or if they are simply too overwhelming for local residents. They sought to gain further insight into the impact of the events on the local community.

In response to the pandemic, Nguyen Phuoc Thien, vice-chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, declared that the mango festival was one of the steps taken to boost post-pandemic trade and raise the consumption of Dong Thap mangoes.
The festival is scheduled to coincide with the mango harvest season, when low prices can help to boost their sales, according to an official.
“We organize familiarization trips to take business representatives, investors, and visitors to mango farming regions and mango processing plants that have secured approval to export their products,” he added.
In addition, digital transformation applications and a virtual reality exhibition will help visitors immerse themselves in the experience of exploring virtual mango farms at the festival.
Mango is one of the six essential crops cultivated in Dong Thap, Vietnam. Its total farming area is greater than 14,000 hectares, making it a major agricultural staple in the region.
Around 250 agricultural regions in the province have been granted licenses to export their fruit to China.
