The Communal House holds a deep reverence for Doan Thuong Dai Vuong and Princess Thu La, iconic figures who left an indelible mark on the people, the nation, and the ancient capital of Thang Long, including the former Cong Bo Ward, now known as Thanh Cong Ward.

As a testament to their remarkable contributions, King Ly Hue Tong, who reigned from 1194 to 1226, bestowed upon them a plethora of titles and accolades. Their status was further elevated as they were subsequently venerated as the guardians of the village.

Over the centuries, the communal house garnered recognition from various imperial dynasties, as evidenced by the numerous imperial edicts issued in its honor. Unfortunately, the passage of time and the tumult of history have taken their toll, leaving only a handful of these precious documents intact, including three decrees dating back to 1674 and a few others.

The communal house has endured a tumultuous history, suffering extensive damage over the years. In 1947, it fell victim to a fire set by French colonial forces, only to be rebuilt according to its original design in 1950. Sadly, it was again ravaged by an accidental fire in 1975.

Thanks to the generosity of local residents and benefactors, the communal house rose from the ashes once more in the year 2000, with a reconstruction cost of VND600 million (approximately US$23,500).

In August 2024, the Hanoi People’s Committee formally designated the Thanh Cong Communal House as a city-level historical site, acknowledging its enduring cultural and historical significance.

“This designation serves as a testament to the communal house’s rich historical, cultural, architectural, and artistic value,” remarked Ngo Ngoc Lam, Chairman of the Thanh Cong Ward People’s Committee. “We are committed to preserving this cherished landmark and transforming it into a captivating destination for visitors, scholars, and explorers alike, thereby enriching the cultural and historical tapestry of Ba Dinh District and Thanh Cong Ward,” he added.
