The two records were awarded for organizing a product promotion event with the preparation of beef pho for the highest number of people to enjoy simultaneously, recorded so far both in Vietnam and the world.

The record-setting event was conducted within the framework of the fundraising walk held on Sunday to support trade union members and the Ho Chi Minh City Workers’ Support Fund.

The walking tour was jointly organized by the city’s administration and the municipal Industrial and Export Processing and Industrial Zones Authority at the Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in District 7 on June 11.

In order to serve more than 2,000 people who finished the 2-kilometer trek, Ho Chi Minh City-based Binh Tay Food Company organized the preparation of 2,126 bowls of beef pho using 1,000 liters of broth, 44kg of beef, 44kg of beef balls, 26.4kg of vegetables, 26.4kg of bean sprouts, and 69.5kg of various spices.

About 80 chefs and their assistants were mobilized to prepare the pho for the bash.

A model of a gigantic pack of ‘Pho Ta,’ an instant pho brand of the company, with measurements of 3m x 1.55m x 0.8m, was erected at the EPZ, containing 3,445 normal packs of pho inside.

Representatives of the Vietnam Records Organization (VietKings) were present at the event to witness, check, and appraise it before recognizing it as a Vietnamese record.

At the same time, VietKings sent all the images, information, and data related to the event to the World Records Union (WorldKings) for consideration.

After verification and evaluation, WorldKings agreed to add the event to the list of world records.

Under the authority of WorldKings, VietKings officially awarded the world record certificate to Binh Tay Food Company for “organizing an event to promote the ‘Pho Ta’ brand instant noodle with the preparation and on-site serving of beef pho for the largest number of people in the world to enjoy simultaneously,” according to WorldKings.

Duong Duy Lam Vien, general secretary of the Vietnam Records Association and director of the Vietnam Records Institute, and Nguyen Thi Quynh Ngoc, general secretary of VietKings, awarded the Vietnam Record Certificate and World Record Certificate to Le Thi Giau, the representative of the company setting these records.

This world record-setting event will help further promote pho, one of the most famous traditional Vietnamese dishes, to the world, the event’s organizer said.

The word pho has been defined in several English dictionaries such as Cambridge, Oxford, Merriam-Webster, and Collins Cobuild.

There are two main types of pho in Vietnam, including pho bo with broth cooked from beef bone and topped with beef, and pho ga consisting of chicken broth and topped with chicken meat.

The dish is also made and served differently in different regions in Vietnam, from north to south.
