In an impressive display of skill and coordination, the Vietnamese trio of athletes secured a gold medal in the men’s team poomsae event, amassing a total of 8,066 and 8,032 points across their performances. They bested their strong Indian rivals to stand atop the podium for the first time, marking a historic moment for Vietnamese Taekwondo.
The day witnessed further triumphs as Nguyen Dinh Toan, Nguyen Van Truong, and Vu Thanh Duong claimed silver in the same event, while the mixed doubles team of Nguyen Thien Phung and Nguyen Thi Le Kim added a bronze medal to Vietnam’s tally in the poomsae category. Their achievements shine a spotlight on the rising talent within Vietnamese Taekwondo.
These medals add to the three bronzes previously won by Vietnamese athletes in poomsae events on Tuesday, showcasing the country’s growing prowess in the sport. The 2024 Asian Taekwondo Championships, hosted for the fourth time in Vietnam, have already witnessed exceptional displays of talent and will continue with the kyorugi (combat) competitions from Thursday to Saturday.
The action-packed week continues with the 2024 Asian Para Taekwondo Open on Sunday, followed by the sixth Asian Taekwondo Open Championships from May 20 to 24, offering a continuous showcase of martial arts excellence at the highest level.
