Silver medalists will be awarded a cash prize of VND 200 million ($7,990), while bronze medalists will receive VND 100 million ($3,995). The city’s People’s Committee has announced rewards of VND 30 million ($1,200) for four coaches and seven athletes participating in the Games, with the funds sourced from private donations to motivate and encourage the athletes.
The 2024 Paralympics in Paris will feature 549 events for athletes with disabilities from across the globe. Vietnam is sending a delegation of 14 members, led by Nguyen Hong Minh, deputy director of the Sports Authority of Vietnam. The team includes two officials, one doctor, three coaches, and seven athletes competing in six events across three disciplines: athletics, represented by Pham Nguyen Khanh Minh; swimming, with Do Thanh Hai and Le Tien Dat; and weightlifting, featuring Le Van Cong, Nguyen Binh An, Dang Thi Linh Phuong, and Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan.

All seven qualified athletes are from Ho Chi Minh City, and they aim to bring home one to two medals. Despite a shoulder injury, weightlifter Le Van Cong remains a strong contender and is determined to undergo rigorous treatment and training to bring glory to Vietnam. Cong previously won gold at the 2016 Paralympics in Brazil, setting a record with a 183kg lift in the men’s 49kg category. He also secured a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
The Vietnamese delegation is set to depart for Paris on August 23, with the logistics team leaving two days earlier for preparations. The costs for their participation will be covered by the state budget allocated to the Sports Authority of Vietnam’s 2024 plan.
