Viet beliefs in the Mother Goddesses of Three Realms

Communities in Vietnam worship the Mother Goddesses of Three Realms, which include heaven, water, mountains, and forests. These revered Mother Goddesses, such as Lieu Hanh, are legendary figures who played significant roles in Vietnamese mythology and culture. The worship of the Mother Goddesses serves to honor and appreciate the roles of women in society.

The traditional practice involves daily worship, participation in ceremonies and rituals, including the spirit possession ritual, and festivals like Phủ Dầy, which are held at temples dedicated to the Mother Goddesses. These activities help preserve the community’s history, cultural heritage, and identity, showcasing traditional costumes, music, and dance.
