The southernmost provinces of Ca Mau and Bac Lieu have recently emerged as Vietnam’s largest shrimp exporters, helping Vietnamese shrimp secure a foothold on the world seafood market.
In the old days, Dong Ho paintings were used as decorations at every home in the northern delta during the Lunar New Year festival (Tet). Hanging a Dong Ho painting in the home at the beginning of a new year was believed to bring happiness and prosperity for the family. The folk paintings have become part of Vietnamese life through generations and are now used in the modern arts, including painting, sculpture, fashion and pottery.
Vietnam is estimated to annually discharge between 0.28 and 0.73 million tons of plastic litter into the ocean, accounting for 6% of the world’s total. The country is among the four top marine polluters after China, Indonesia and the Philippines. Vietnam is taking drastic measures to stop this pollution, especially in the ocean. It has targeted to phase out single-use plastics by 2025.
Ly Son island is a gorgeous geopark with geography formed by ten volcanoes from the prehistoric age. The island is also home to the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Flotilla which protected Hoang Sa and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes four centuries ago.
