The annual exhibition, held by the Economic and Urban Newspaper in collaboration with the Hanoi Elderly Photography Club, will be on display until October 10th. This year’s exhibition celebrates the beauty of Hanoi and captures significant moments in the city’s development.
This initiative by the newspaper aims to leave a lasting impression on both foreign and domestic visitors who are fortunate enough to be in Hanoi during this enchanting autumn season.

Hanoi’s Rise to Greatness
Nguyen Thanh Loi, Editor-in-Chief of Economic and Urban Newspaper/The Hanoi Times, delivered a speech at the exhibition’s opening ceremony. He highlighted that the 19th Hanoi In My Heart photo exhibition presents 80 captivating photographs that serve as a valuable documentary of Hanoi’s historical journey, memorable milestones, and remarkable achievements over the past 70 years since its liberation.
Loi expressed, “Through these powerful photographs, viewers can witness the resilience and innovation of Hanoi, a city rich in cultural identity, actively seeking to integrate with the region and the world.”

Nguyen Van Phuc, Chairman of the Hanoi Elderly Photography Club, shared that since its inception in 2004, the Hanoi in My Heart photo exhibition has become an anticipated event for many Hanoi enthusiasts. It is often held around the Capital Liberation Day, when the city is adorned with the golden hues of autumn.
The exhibition showcases the cultural life and symbols of Hanoi’s millennia-old cultural history. The photographers’ lenses capture and preserve the national cultural identity, presenting a city that is both cultured and striving for modernity.

Hanoi In My Heart continues to evolve and gain recognition, receiving feedback and attention from a diverse range of visitors. The exhibited photographs not only convey press information but also capture moments close to the daily lives of Hanoians.
Many of the displayed works have previously graced the pages of the Economic and Urban Newspaper, either in the “Hanoi’s Rhythm of Life” photo column in the weekend editions or the “Elegant and Civilized Hanoi” photo column in the online version.
By visiting the exhibition, viewers are immersed in the brave and heroic spirit of Hanoi, a city that embraces peace and soars with cultural pride. It is a Hanoi that is rising, determined to integrate with the global community.

The exhibition is thoughtfully divided into three themes: “Hanoi – Heroic Capital,” “Hanoi on the Path of Innovation,” and “Hanoi’s Breakthrough Today.”
The first section showcases documentary images that transport viewers back to the heroic years and historical highlights of Hanoi, from the liberation of the capital in 1954 to 1975. Captivating captions accompany the photographs, such as “Tran Duy Hung, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi City Political-Military Committee, returned from Viet Bac to take over the capital” and “Smile of Victory.”
The second part focuses on the period between 1975 and 2008, before the expansion of the capital’s administrative boundaries. The final section showcases the cultured, civilized, and modern Hanoi of today, with photographs like “The capital Hanoi is increasingly civilized and modern” and “Hanoi sparkles at night.”
Captivating International Audiences

The exhibition, set in the spacious courtyard of the Temple of Literature, captivated the attention of foreign tourists visiting this historic site. Jeanette Freudiger, a visitor from Switzerland, shared with The Hanoi Times that her family’s first trip to Hanoi began at the Temple of Literature, where they serendipitously discovered the Hanoi in My Heart exhibition.
Freudiger was particularly drawn to a photo of the Red River taken by Pham Hung, stating, “I now understand why this river is named as such. The unique red color stands out against the lush green backdrop. The photo showcases Hanoi’s distinct and fascinating architecture along the riverbank.”
Marita Crombie, a tourist from Scotland, was captivated by the colorful photo of the Mother Goddess taken by Bich Hai. She described it as a rich and detailed portrayal of Vietnamese culture, vastly different from Western culture. Crombie elaborated, “The photo captures the unique characteristics of your culture, with the ‘Mother’ surrounded by her ‘children’ and models of phoenixes soaring among the clouds.”

Additionally, the exhibition’s photos of the war in Hanoi left a strong impression on tourists. Muhammad Junaidi, an Indonesian visitor, expressed his admiration for the resilience of Hanoians during the war. He praised the city’s rebirth from the ruins of the US B-52 bombing in 1972 and shared his respect for President Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam’s exceptional leader.
Since 2023, the Hanoi in My Heart photo exhibition has been held at the Temple of Literature – Imperial Academy, and it continues to be displayed at the Cat Linh sky train station. This extension helps to spread the word about the event and the Economic and Urban Newspaper‘s ecosystem.
