The public screenings of the two films will be held in partnership with the inaugural Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival, the Australian Consulate General announced in a press release on Thursday. 

The screenings are intended to provide an immersive cinematic experience for film enthusiasts and the general public in Ho Chi Minh City.

They also constitute an integral component of the inaugural Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival, an event designed to foster cultural dialogue and enhance cross-cultural understanding, according to the press release.

‘Top End Wedding’ follows the heartwarming journey of Lauren and Ned across the Australian outback in search of Lauren’s missing mother.

Meanwhile, ‘Storm Boy’ presents an adventure set against the stunning backdrop of South Australia, exploring the themes of friendship and wildlife protection.

“We are honored to showcase these remarkable Australian films, which demonstrate the depth and diversity of Australian storytelling,” said Ciaran Chestnutt, acting consul general at the Australian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

“These screenings underscore our commitment to fostering cultural exchange and appreciation for international cinema.”

Admission to these screenings is VND 50,000 (US$2), and tickets can be purchased on the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival website at hiff.vn/tickets.  

Amongst the screenings will be a free screening of ‘Top End Wedding’ at Galaxy Nguyen Du at 116 Nguyen Du Street in District 1 on April 12 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival (HIFF), hosted by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, is an annual cinematic extravaganza that celebrates the art of film storytelling. 

Nestled in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, HIFF serves as a global platform for filmmakers, industry professionals, and film enthusiasts to convene, share their passion for cinema, and explore the captivating power of storytelling through the medium of film.

The 2024 HIFF is scheduled to take place from April 6 to 13.
