The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Lund University (Sweden), and the World Crafts Council (WCC) signed a cooperation agreement on November 10th to support the growth of traditional craft villages.

The signing ceremony was held as part of an international workshop aimed at enhancing cooperation between Hanoi and international organizations in the development of traditional craft villages in Vietnam.
The event is also one of the activities of the Vietnam Craft Villages Festival 2023, which is taking place in Hanoi until November 12th.
During the ceremony, Ta Van Tuong, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, emphasized that these agreements will foster collaboration between Hanoi and foreign partners in the advancement of traditional trades within the capital city.
He expressed hope that this partnership would contribute to preserving the traditional values and cultural identity of craft villages in Hanoi.
Kevin Murray, Vice President of the World Crafts Council, highlighted the significance of utilizing technology and social networking platforms to promote traditional crafts and craft villages within the community, thereby facilitating the growth of Vietnamese handicrafts.
In addition, Murray shared experiences from other countries in developing traditional craft villages, including Stoke-on-Trent craft village in the UK, Kandangan Village in Indonesia, and Ballarat in Australia.
He expressed his hope for both sides to promptly specify the details for preserving and developing craft villages in Hanoi.
This event aims to attract young individuals to learn traditional crafts and encourage them to engage in production and career development.
Furthermore, it aims to strengthen cooperation in the preservation and development of handicrafts and promote the model of creative craft villages. This aligns with Hanoi’s policy of advancing craft villages and enhancing creative design based on the objectives of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, of which Hanoi is a member.
