Hanoi also hosts some of the city’s best events during the wintertime, such as the Tet Festival in January or February, which celebrates the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, and the Perfume Pagoda Festival, a Buddhist pilgrimage that takes place in February.

In addition to Hanoi, other destinations that made the top five for best winter vacations include Honolulu-Oahu in the US, Sydney in Australia, Lucerne in Switzerland, the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, and St. Lucia in the eastern Caribbean. The list was compiled by US News based on expert analysis and reader votes.
Hanoi has been receiving recognition in various rankings. In the Telegraph Travel Awards, it moved up from 54th position in 2019 to 27th this year, based on readers’ votes. It also climbed up 20 spots to 129th position out of 173 cities in the Economic Intelligence Unit’s livability ranking.

Hanoi and Hue were voted among the 10 winners in the “Best Cities” category at the 2023 Luxury Awards Asia Pacific from US travel magazine Travel+Leisure. In the first seven months of this year, Hanoi welcomed 14.7 million tourists, with international arrivals reaching 2.43 million, a significant increase compared to the same period last year. The total revenue from tourism during this period reached VND 53.7 trillion (US $2.3 billion), showing a year-on-year expansion of 68.3%.
In the future, the Department of Tourism will organize various events to promote tourism in Hanoi, including a tourism photo contest, the Hanoi tourism souvenir festival, and an Ao dai festival. Additionally, they will strengthen collaboration and promotion activities to attract international tourists from key markets such as Northeast Asia, France, the EU, the US, India, and China.
