The District 3 People’s Committee, the organizer of the festival, said that the fest featured nine teams from Ho Chi Minh City and four other localities, including Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Kien Giang and Binh Phuoc Provinces, competing in boat races.

The teams competed in a race along a portion of the canal between Cong Ly Bridge and Le Van Sy Bridge.

During the knockout round, these teams were placed in four groups. The winner of each group advanced to the semifinal, where they competed for the first prize of the race.

Thousands of spectators flocked to both banks of the canal to cheer on the rowers at the crack of dawn on Sunday, with the race officially beginning at 7:30 am.

Tran Thi Ngat, a teacher at a kindergarten in District 3, expressed her excitement as she and her family members and friends attended the race. She said, “It was an incredible experience to be at the event with my loved ones.”

“As I watched the thrilling NGO boat race for the first time,” she exclaimed, “I was mesmerized by the sheer energy and enthusiasm of the participants!”

These teams are demonstrating their strength and determination to win the tournament, making the race more exciting and supporters exhilarated.”

The festival was aimed at celebrating the nation’s Reunification Day and Vietnamese Ethnic Groups Culture Day (April 19). Vu Thi My Ngoc, Vice Chairwoman of the District 3 People’s Committee, stated that the event was intended to honor the momentous occasion. Visitors had the opportunity to explore an array of traditional activities, musical performances, and delicious cuisines that represented the nation’s rich cultural heritage. Ngoc added that the event was a great way to promote the culture of Vietnam’s ethnic groups to the local community.

The festival not only promoted and maintained the cultural values of the Khmer ethnic people in southern Vietnam, but also facilitated cultural exchange among different ethnic groups and introduced District 3 as a safe and friendly tourist destination to both local and international visitors, according to Ngoc.

Historically, they have had a unique culture, language, and religion. Recently, the Khmer people have been facing many challenges, including discrimination, poverty, and lack of access to education and health care.

Ho Chi Minh City will host spectacular fireworks displays in celebration of Reunification Day and International Workers’ Day (May 1st) on April 30th. The displays will take place at Dam Sen Amusement Park in District 11 and the Saigon River Tunnel in Thu Duc City between 9:00 pm and 9:15 pm. This special event is being organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports.

Thousands of people gathered to witness the event, which featured colorful boats and a lively atmosphere. The festival is part of the city’s efforts to promote traditional culture and tourism. “It was a great way to celebrate the upcoming national holiday,” said one spectator. “It was really exciting to watch the boats race and to feel the festive atmosphere in the air.”

“I was absolutely mesmerized when I watched my first ever thrilling NGO boat race,” she exclaimed.
