The 34th International Biology Olympiad 2023 was held at the UAE National University in Al Ain City, UAE from July 2-11. The contest had the participation of 295 contestants from 80 countries, territories, and two countries as observers.

According to the Regulations of the 2023 International Biology Olympiad, students take 4 practical exams (Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Plant Molecular Biology, Ecology, and Behavior) in one day. In addition, there are two theory tests on two different days. This year’s exam is considered to be excellent and interesting but difficult, long, and has a lot of new knowledge for Vietnamese candidates.

With the result of one silver and two bronze medals at the International Biology Olympiad in 2023, the Vietnamese national team continued to maintain the result of 100% medal winners. According to the Ministry of Education and Training, this result confirms the quality of general education and the right direction in the ministry’s work of detecting, selecting, and fostering excellent students.

At the 2018 contest, Nguyen Phuong Thao from High School for Gifted Students under the Hanoi University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, ranked first out of 261 contestants and also marked the highest personal achievement of any Vietnamese student having attended the IBO so far.

It is expected that the Ministry of Education and Training will welcome and congratulate the achievements of the team participating in the 2023 International Biology Olympiad at Noi Bai International Airport on July 12.
