The inaugural ceremony was part of a series of activities marking the 47th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations, and the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand.
In his remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh said before returning to Vietnam in 1960, Vietnamese in Muong district, Nong Khai province had made donations in cash and kind to build a road in the locality in order to thank the King and Thai authorities for their support in difficult times.
Carrying forward the tradition, Vietnamese in Nong Khai built the gate in 2022, he said, calling the road and the gate symbols of the friendship between peoples of the two countries.
The diplomat expressed his sincere thanks to the King, Royal Family, Government and people of Thailand for their welcome, protection and support to Thai people of the Vietnamese origin to settle down in and integrate into the host country, forming part of the ethnic community in Thailand.
He also thanked authorities of Nong Khai province and Nong Khai town for their support during the construction of the facility.
A representative from Nong Khai province noted that since the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic ties in 1976, the friendship has been developing in all spheres, from economy to social affairs and cultural exchanges.
Thai people of the Vietnamese origin have played an important role in promoting the friendship and trade ties, the official said, noting a hope that the gate will be a symbol of the friendship forever.
Currently, there are around 20,000 Thai people of the Vietnamese origin living in Nong Khai province./.
