Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Duong Hai Hung recently received Renzo Piraccini, President of Cesena Fiera, the organizer of Macfrut Fair, to prepare for Vietnam’s plan to participate in the Macfrut 2023.
At the meeting, Piraccini hailed the potential of Vietnamese farm produce and thanked the diplomat for partnering with Macfrut to introduce Vietnamese products over the past two years.
He said Macfrut 2023 will become more special with the International Blueberry Days, a new exhibition dedicated to the world of spices and herbs, and another on plant nursery and varietal innovation.
He expressed his wish that Vietnam will participate in the exhibition, with a booth position commensurate with Vietnam’s strengths at this year’s fair, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties to introduce its popular tropical farm produce such as dragon fruit, lychee and ginger.
Ambassador Duong Hai Hung affirmed the capacity and strength of Vietnamese agricultural products. He hopes that Vietnam will be present at this year’s fair to continue to bring to the Italian, European Union (EU) and international markets high quality agricultural products and specialties of Vietnam, especially fruits and vegetables that meet market demand in the region.

According to Ambassador Duong Hai Hung, this is not only an opportunity to introduce and promote Vietnamese products but also an opportunity for Vietnamese localities and businesses to research and learn new techniques in hi-tech agriculture sector, plant nurseries, and innovation in fruit growing.
Businesses will have the opportunity to learn about market needs with many exhibitors, and customers not only from Italy, and the EU but also from many other countries around the world.
Macfrut is one of the biggest annual international fairs in Europe, one of the leading economic and trade events in Italy, with about 1,000 stalls from over 90 countries, including over 500 purchasers and nearly 32,500 visitors. The fair showcases agricultural products, fruits and vegetables, spice and herb products, poultry products, modern machinery and technology related from planting, and production to packaging, distribution and market. |
The Vietnamese Embassy in Italy participated in the fair twice in 2021 and 2022, introducing agricultural products of Vietnamese localities and businesses, and attracting the attention of many Italian and international customers.
The Macfrut 2023 will be held from May 3 to 5, 2023 in the city of Rimini, Italy
EVFTA poses challenges to Vietnamese agricultural products
Since the EVTFA was approved, experts have been analysing the opportunities for Vietnam to penetrate deeper into the high-value foreign markets. However, the implementation of the deal also poses many challenges to Vietnamese agricultural products. Besides strict standards from the European Union market, competitive pressure in the domestic market is also a big issue.
EVFTA smooths the way for Vietnamese farm produce
The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, at its core, aims to liberalise both tariff and non-tariff barriers on key exports of both sides over a period of 10 years. For Vietnam, tariff eliminations will benefit key export industries, including agricultural products such as rice, seafood, and coffee, among others. Localities with key export items are now confident of tapping into the opportunities.
