The National Innovation Agency (NIA) has taken a significant step towards fostering international collaboration and promoting Thai innovations on the global stage. NIA recently entered into a memorandum of understanding with Asia Berlin Forum e.V. (ABF), aiming to boost innovation networks, facilitate business connections, and unlock investment opportunities.
Dr. Krithpaka Boonfueng, Executive Director of NIA, shared her insights on this strategic partnership: “At NIA, we recognize the importance of ‘Innovation Diplomacy’ in driving Thailand towards becoming an innovation hub. Our collaboration with AsiaBerlin is a testament to this strategy. Together, we aim to empower Thai startups, especially in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), to access the European market. By creating a supportive ecosystem, we believe this partnership will enhance opportunities and competitiveness for Thai entrepreneurs.”
Dr. Boonfueng further emphasized the impact of this initiative, stating, “Through our joint efforts, NIA and AsiaBerlin will offer a range of programs, including workshops, consulting, exchange visits, and innovation competitions. These initiatives will not only provide Thai entrepreneurs with essential resources but also foster a culture of innovation and creativity. We are committed to building a robust foundation for Thailand’s innovation ecosystem, driving economic development, and supporting the next generation of innovators.”
Marten Rauschenberg, General Manager of Asia Berlin Forum e.V., highlighted the strengths of Berlin’s startup ecosystem and its relevance to Thai investors and startups: “AsiaBerlin, backed by the Berlin Senate Department, serves as a gateway to Berlin’s dynamic startup scene. We connect the dots between investors, entrepreneurs, and agencies in Berlin and key Asian cities like Bangkok. Berlin boasts an attractive investment climate, a talented and diverse workforce, and a culture of innovation. It leads the way in sectors such as e-commerce, fintech, and digital health.”
Rauschenberg continued, “Berlin’s startup ecosystem is thriving, with a significant number of new startups, unicorns, and job creations. The city attracts substantial venture capital investments, ranking second in the EU. Our collaboration with NIA will open doors for Thai startups and investors to tap into this vibrant ecosystem. Through initiatives like the AsiaBerlin Investors Club and the Expansion Lab, we are committed to facilitating market access and strengthening connections between Asia and Berlin.”
This partnership invites Thai startups to participate in the AsiaBerlin Summit 2024, offering a platform to connect with international players and gain exposure to the European market. It marks a strategic move towards fostering cross-border collaborations and propelling Thai innovations onto the global stage.
