According to Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh, the past ten years have witnessed the strongest, most profound, and substantive development period in the relationship between Vietnam and the US since the establishment of diplomatic relations 28 years ago. This development is reflected in several key points:
Firstly, there have been continuous high-level visits during the past decade, including the first visit of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the US, which deepened the cooperation between the two countries based on the expanded comprehensive partnership. This visit also strengthened the principles of bilateral relations, emphasizing mutual respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political institutions.
Secondly, economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Vietnam and the US has thrived over the past ten years, aligning with the interests of both countries. Two-way trade tripled from over US$30 billion to US$139 billion, with the US market becoming Vietnam’s largest export market, surpassing US$100 billion in exports. Additionally, cooperation in various fields, including security and defense, science and technology, education, and people-to-people exchanges, has strengthened.
The ten years of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership have laid a solid foundation and created great prospects for the further development of bilateral relations, particularly in the domain of people-to-people diplomacy.
Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh emphasized the important role of people-to-people diplomacy in the ups and downs of Vietnam-US relations throughout history. This was evident in two distinct periods: the resistance war against the US and its aftermath, and the period following the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1995. People-to-people diplomacy served as a bridge to enhance understanding, build trust, and foster a broader and stronger movement in the past ten years.
“Looking back at the development of Vietnam-US relations, people-to-people diplomacy has made many positive contributions, serving as a bridge to enhance understanding, build trust, and become a broader and stronger movement in the past ten years,” Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh stated. |

The Vietnam-US Society aims to further develop people-to-people diplomacy to contribute more to the overall relationship between the two countries, taking advantage of a peaceful environment and available resources in the post-Covid-19 pandemic period. The Society also focuses on expanding the partner network of people-to-people diplomacy in Vietnam-US relations.
Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh believes that the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership marks the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries. In the broader context of Vietnam’s foreign policy, people-to-people diplomacy will continue to develop smoothly, promoting peace, national development, and strengthening relations between Vietnam and the US to new heights.
The ambassador active in boosting Vietnam-Sri Lanka friendship
The traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Sri Lanka have increasingly developed since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1970. As a dynamic diplomat, Ambassador to Vietnam Hasanthi Urugodawatte Dissanayake has made great efforts to boost the friendship and cultural exchange between the two countries.
Vietnam-Venezuela Relations: 25 Years of Sustainable Development
Vietnam and Venezuela officially established diplomatic ties in December 1989. However, the people of the two countries have understood and supported each other for a lot longer. During the resistance war against the US for national freedom, the Venezuelan people, together with those who loved peace in the world, launched a movement of solidarity to support Vietnam. And the event in October 1964 is a vivid example when the Venezuelan guerillas in Caracas participated in kidnapping an American Lieutenant Colonel, with the aim of exchanging him for the freedom of Vietnamese hero Nguyen Van Troi who was captured and sentenced to death by the Saigon puppet army.
