Baloch Freedom Struggles: A Pledged Independence Day Remembrance

The Baloch National Movement (BNM), a prominent advocate for Baloch rights, commemorated Baloch Independence Day on Sunday. This significant day marks a pivotal moment in history when Balochistan freed itself from the shackles of British colonial rule on August 11, 1947. It was a defining moment that ignited the spirit of freedom and self-determination among the Baloch people, setting them on a path toward shaping their own destiny. The celebration of this day serves as a powerful reminder of the Baloch's unwavering pursuit of independence and their resilient struggle to safeguard their unique culture and identity.

Baloch rights organisations lead by BNM commemorate Independence Day with a pledge to continue the struggle for Baloch freedom.

A spokesperson for the Baloch National Movement (BNM) took to Twitter to mark August 11 as a day of renewed commitment to the cause.

“I urge all of us to reaffirm our pledge to restore Balochistan’s independence,” the spokesperson wrote, “and I vow to persist in the struggle, guided by the sacrifices of our martyrs.”

The statement continued, “August 11th is Pledge Renewal Day. We swear by the blood of the martyrs that we will relentlessly continue the struggle for freedom from oppression and for the self-determination of Balochistan.”

In a series of tweets, the spokesperson reflected on the history of Balochistan’s independence movement, criticizing the role of Britain and the Commonwealth of Nations in enabling Pakistan’s occupation of the region.

“The Baloch nation has been deprived of its fundamental rights, including freedom, due to a British conspiracy,” the spokesperson wrote. “Britain’s failure to act has allowed Pakistan to violate the rights of our people with impunity.”

The Commonwealth, according to the spokesperson, has strayed from its core principles of democracy, peace, and human rights protection. As such, they urged Britain to hold Pakistan accountable and support the Baloch Independence movement to correct historical injustices.

The statement also emphasized the denial of basic rights and freedoms to the Baloch people in Pakistan, and the violent suppression of their peaceful struggle through the killing of political leaders and activists. “The Baloch nation will never forget the sacrifice of our martyrs,” it read, “and we will continue to fight for complete national independence from Pakistan.”

August 11, the spokesperson noted, is a reminder of the enduring need for freedom and self-determination to ensure the survival and flourishing of the Baloch people, their language, culture, and values.

The spokesperson concluded by calling on national political activists to renew their commitment to the cause and increase public participation in the struggle for freedom, ensuring that the message of national liberation reaches every Baloch individual.
