Recognition of Vietnamese Royal Court Music Nha Nhac Growing Globally

It is 20 years since UNESCO acknowledged Nha Nhac (royal court music) as an Immaterial Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This recognition marks an important milestone for the history of Nha Nhac.

Translating as “elegant music,” Hue Royal Court Music is a symbol of the royalty, longevity and prosperity of the dynasty. Hue Royal Court Music with its elegant lyrics and its noble rhythm was originally performed in the feudal court on royal occasions. Hue Royal Court Music was highly valued by Vietnamese feudal dynasties and has been preserved by the Vietnamese people to this day.

The People’s Committee of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue organized a ceremony on June 17, 2023, at Ngo Mon Square in Hue city to celebrate 30 years of UNESCO’s recognition of the Complex of Hue Monuments and 20 years of recognition of Nha Nhac ( Royal Court Music).

Hue Royal Court Music is currently performed at the Hue Monuments Conservation Center in Duyet Thi Duong.
