The “Colors of ASEAN” cultural festival, a vibrant celebration of Southeast Asian culture, commenced on the evening of August 30 and will continue until September 1.
The festival, hosted at the iconic Thang Long Imperial Citadel, offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the diverse cultures of ASEAN. Visitors can explore various booths showcasing the rich array of products from each member country, providing a glimpse into the unique traditions and heritage of the region.

One of the key attractions is a captivating replica of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, bringing to life the bustling atmosphere with cyclo rickshaws, trams, and flower-adorned bicycles. The vibrant food stalls offer a delicious journey through the flavors of ASEAN, while the lively performances and exhibitions showcase the region’s artistic talents.
The festival also features a range of engaging activities, including calligraphy demonstrations, a children’s drawing contest, and a special night tour of the citadel. Photo exhibitions, drawing competitions, and thematic booths explore themes such as “Integration,” “City Flavors,” and “Village Aromas,” offering a deeper insight into the cultures of ASEAN.
Nguyen Manh Quyen, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, emphasized the importance of ASEAN cooperation in his opening remarks. He highlighted that promoting unity and collaboration among ASEAN nations remains a key priority in Vietnam’s multilateral foreign policy.

The festival not only aligns with this spirit of cooperation but also celebrates significant milestones: the 57th anniversary of ASEAN, Vietnam’s 79th National Day, Hanoi’s 70th Liberation Day, and the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being honored as a “City for Peace” by UNESCO.
Quyen invited international friends in Vietnam to join the festivities, stating, “This is a chance for international friends in Vietnam to connect and engage with the people of Hanoi.”
Lao Ambassador to Vietnam, Khamphao Ernthavanh, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the significance of Hanoi hosting the event as a UNESCO-designated “City for Peace.” She emphasized how the festival embodies the harmonious and inclusive values that lie at the heart of the ASEAN community.

Ambassador Ernthavanh expressed her confidence in the success of the “Colors of ASEAN” festival, believing it will create lasting memories for both foreign visitors and Hanoi locals. With Laos assuming the ASEAN chairmanship for the third time in 2024, the festival also celebrates the theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience.”
She concluded by acknowledging the role of Hanoi’s rich history, vibrant culture, and renowned hospitality in attracting international tourists and fostering stronger ties among ASEAN nations.
