The events marks the end of the Lunar New Year period among fishermen, meaning that they will set sail on new fishing trips afterwards.
Participants join a parade during the festival.
Fishermen pray for rich hauls of fish, safe voyages, and peace for the nation.
The festival features a wide variety of ceremonies and rituals, of which the whale worshipping ceremony is the most important activity, with the occasion attracting the participation of numerous fishermen.

A procession of the god of the sea is carried by local fishermen as a prelude for the festival being held in Da Nang.

Many joyful cultural activities are also held as part of the event, such as a Tuồng (classic drama) performance, folk singing, and traditional games, with these attracting both local people and visitors.
