Vietnamese Cambodian children celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival

Organizing the Mid-Autumn Festival helps Vietnamese Cambodian children to understand the cultural identity of their homeland, through which they have deep understandings and feelings towards their roots.

On the afternoon of October 1, dozens of children of Vietnamese families in Sihanoukville city, Preah Sihanouk province, Cambodia gathered at the headquarters of the Vietnam Consulate General in Preah Sihanouk province to attend the Mid-Autumn Festival held by the Vietnam Consulate; the Khmer-Vietnam Association; the Metfone Company branch in Preah Sihanouk province and local philanthropists.

At the ceremony, the representative of the Vietnam Consulate solemnly read the letters of the General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong to the children and teenagers at home and abroad.

Consul General Vu Ngoc Ly expressed his belief that organizing the Mid-Autumn Festival not only helps to unite the children of the Vietnamese community in Preah Sihanouk but also helps them to have a sense of identity, understand the culture of the Vietnamese people, through which they are inspired by beautiful images of their homeland.

He suggested that the Khmer-Vietnam Association and the parents create the best conditions for the children to learn, play, and encourage them to maintain their Vietnamese identity and language, as well as devote affections towards their country.

Touched by the concern and affection of the Party and State of Vietnam as well as the officials and employees of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Preah Sihanouk province, Mr. Sok Chea, Chairman of the Khmer-Vietnam Association in Preah Sihanouk and teacher Nguyen Thi Suong (68 years old, who has volunteered to teach Vietnamese to Vietnamese Cambodian children in Preah Sihanouk for many years) confirmed the Consulate General’s care and support and the children. He stressed that attending cultural events organized by the Consulate General is the driving force for the children to preserve the Vietnamese cultural identity and language, as well as appreciate and look towards their motherland.

On this occasion, the Consulate General in coordination with donors presented more than 50 gifts to the children. The officials together with the children also organized a Mid-Autumn Festival party in a warm and affectionate atmosphere.
