The Vietnam Summer Camp, an annual event that began on July 16, 2024, in Hanoi, offers a unique opportunity for young overseas Vietnamese to reconnect with their heritage. This year’s theme, “The Country Filled with Joy,” sets the tone for a memorable experience as the nation commemorates significant milestones: the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the liberation of the capital, leading up to the 80th birthday of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the 50th anniversary of the country’s reunification.

The Vietnam Summer Camp 2024 commenced with an opening ceremony attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang and young Vietnamese delegates from around the world.

This summer camp is more than just a holiday; it’s a journey of discovery for these young individuals. With 120 participants from 27 countries and territories, the camp provides a platform for cultural exchange, fostering a deeper understanding of their ancestral roots. It instills a sense of patriotism and pride in their rich cultural heritage while also creating lasting friendships.

One of the participants, Benz Pham (Pham Minh Kien), 16, from Laos, shared his admiration for Vietnam’s progress. He noted the diligence of the Vietnamese people and the vibrant energy of Hanoi, which has remained consistent over the years. The camp offers a unique opportunity for delegates like Bryan Lim (Nguyen Tung Lam) to connect with others who share a similar cultural background, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

The opening ceremony, addressed by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, emphasized the importance of honoring one’s ancestors and roots. She welcomed the young delegates, encouraging them to embrace their heritage and cultivate a strong sense of patriotism. Nguyen Phu Binh, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, also attended the ceremony, highlighting the enduring value of the summer camp, which has thrived for over 20 years.

The Vietnam Summer Camp 2024 will take participants on a journey across Vietnam, from the northern city of Hanoi to the southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City, with stops in Phu Tho, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Hue, Quy Nhon, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, and Binh Thuan. It’s more than a vacation; it’s a chance to pay tribute to ancestors, honor fallen heroes, and immerse themselves in the nation’s rich history and cultural traditions.
