The nearly 30-minute film, entitled “One year on since the Essex lorry tragedy”, was produced by journalist Paul Kennedy as video journalist and copy editor and Ho Hoang as a producer.

The film records the suffering of the relatives of victims as well as their neighbours and representatives of local authorities in Yen Thanh District, Nghe An Province.

Notably, the authors also met a person who had fled to England and fortunately returned home.

The film aims to commemorate the victims of the tragedy while warning those who intend to attempt illegal migration.

On October 18, 2020, the film was published on YouTube and Viet Nam News as well as broadcast on Vietnam News Agency Television’s channel. In addition to Vietnamese people, it has attracted the attention of various viewers from the UK, the US, Canada, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, France and Cayman.

The film received a “Special Mention” from the Southeast Asia Short Film Festival.

Pune International Film Festival has been held annually in Pune City, Maharashtra State in India since 2002. It is expected to be held in a live format with a small scale due to the COVID-19 situation.
