New attraction

Located in the Northern Key Economic Zone and bordering three major cities – Hai Phong, Ha Long and Uong Bi – Quang Yen Town has a favorable geographic location and offers favorable conditions for overland and waterway transport. The locality is also home to many historical relics and special festivals, such as Tien Cong and Bach Dang festivals.

In the orientation for local socioeconomic development, the town’s government has provided guidelines for sectors and authorities at all levels to bring into play cultural and historical values to promote tourism. The town has coordinated with the city of Uong Bi, Dong Trieu Town and travel firms to create tours linking Bach Dang, Yen Tu and Nha Tran relics as spiritual tourism products to attract visitors to Quang Ninh Province. Two specific products have also been launched to attract foreign visitors traveling by ship. Quang Yen Town has also created appropriate mechanisms and policies to encourage investment in accommodations and entertainment and shopping facilities to better serve tourists.

To create a healthy environment for sustainable tourism development, Quang Yen Town has paid special attention to ensuring effective state management of tourism. Every year, the town’s steering committee for tourism development carries out inspections of tourism businesses. All tourist sites and One Commune One Product (OCOP) points of sale have made public their regulations, prices of goods and services and parking charges. Accommodation facilities and restaurants have been certified as meeting requirements in terms of social security, fire prevention, food security and environmental protection.

Tourism, an investment magnet

Ngo Dinh Dung, Deputy Head of Quang Yen Town’s Culture and Information Office, said local tourism has shown clear signs of thriving. The number of visitors to the town has increased year after year. Quang Yen expects to welcome 500,000 visitors and create VND340 billion in revenue from tourism in 2019 against VND55 billion in 2015. The tourism sector is expected to generate more jobs for local workers, promoting trade and services, significantly contributing to the town’s socioeconomic development.

With the highway linking Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh running through it, Quang Yen Town is strategically placed to become a major investor magnet.

Under the orientation for economic development of Quang Ninh Province People’s Committee, Quang Yen will concentrate on developing industries, services and trade, prioritizing logistics services and high-quality agriculture.

Nguyen Van Thang, the chairman of Quang Ninh Province’s People’s Committee, has provided guidance for Quang Yen Town to create favorable conditions for businesses and to select suitable investors with adequate financial capacity. He said that to attract tourists, Quang Yen needs to pay attention to the conservation and development of traditional craft villages, preserve the cultural identity of the locality and invest in cultural and spiritual tourism products at the Bach Dang Special Relic Site.

To develop tourism as a key economic sector, Ngo Dinh Dung said Quang Yen will diversify its tourism products. In addition to cultural, historical and spiritual tourism, the town will also advance culinary and ecological tourism. It will invite businesses to invest in building high-grade hotels, entertainment and relaxation facilities. At the same time, the town will cooperate with other localities nationwide to introduce and promote Quang Yen’s tourism image.

In the 2020-2025 period, Quang Yen Town expects the local economy will be based mostly on industries and services. Tourism is also set to become a major economic sector, attracting 0.8-0.9 million visitors to the town in this period and generating jobs for about 5,000 direct workers.
