A collaboration between the Vietnamese Writers’ Association and the Pakistan Academy of Letters was recently announced during a Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony in Hanoi on October 15.

As part of the agreement, the two organizations will facilitate cultural exchanges and training programs for writers, providing opportunities to showcase their literary works and promote the unique cultures and landscapes of Vietnam and Pakistan.

Additionally, the Vietnamese side has committed to translating and publishing a curated selection of 100 Pakistani poems, offering a window into the rich literary heritage of the country.

“Truyện Kiều,” a seminal 18th-century poetic masterpiece by the renowned Vietnamese poet Nguyen Du, is a cornerstone of Vietnamese literature. Comprising 3,524 verses written in the “Lục bát” style, it has been translated into over 20 languages, captivating audiences worldwide.

Another significant work, “Nhật Ký Trong Tù” (“Prison Diary”), penned by President Ho Chi Minh, is a collection of more than 100 poems. These poems, written in Chinese characters during his imprisonment in China’s Guangxi province between 1942 and 1943, have inspired artists both within Vietnam and internationally over the past 50 years.
