Hanoi has embarked on an ambitious project to restore and rejuvenate iconic historical and cultural landmarks, with a scheduled completion date of 2026.

With a substantial investment of VND267 billion (US$10.5 million), the project aims to conserve the revered pagodas and create a new memorial dedicated to the beloved President Ho Chi Minh.



The Tram Pagoda complex, nestled in the serene Tram Mountain, is one of Vietnam’s four oldest architectural treasures. A short walk from the main pagoda leads to the mystical Long Tien Cave, enhancing the spiritual ambiance of this sacred site.

The National Relic Complex, comprising the Tram Pagoda and the Tram Gian Pagoda, is a testament to Vietnam’s rich historical and cultural heritage. Located just 20 kilometers from the bustling heart of Hanoi, the complex offers a tranquil escape amidst ancient trees and a sense of spiritual serenity.

As visitors approach the Tram Pagoda, they are greeted by majestic ancient trees that provide a natural canopy, enhancing the sacred atmosphere. A short stroll to the right reveals the hidden gem of Long Tien Cave, where a serene Buddha altar surrounded by statues creates a peaceful sanctuary.



Traces of history: The Tram Pagoda played a significant role during the war against the French, serving as the broadcasting location for President Ho Chi Minh’s call for resistance in 1946.

The pagoda holds immense historical significance, especially as it witnessed pivotal moments during the National War of Resistance. On December 19, 1946, the Radio Voice of Vietnam broadcast President Ho Chi Minh’s call to action from this very site. This, coupled with its unique architecture, led to its recognition as a national historical and cultural relic in 1962.

Today, the complex is a bustling hub of spiritual and cultural exploration, attracting hundreds of Buddhists and tourists each weekend. It has become a must-visit destination for those seeking to immerse themselves in Vietnam’s rich historical and cultural tapestry.



A short distance away, the ancient Tram Gian Pagoda stands as another testament to Hanoi’s cultural wealth. The name “Tram Gian,” translating to “one hundred compartments,” reflects the unique structure of the pagoda, housing a vast collection of statues.

The Tram Gian Pagoda, located in the tranquil village of Tien Lu, boasts an impressive collection of 153 statues, with the wooden statues of Buddha and Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva being the most revered. The pagoda’s base, crafted from red terracotta, showcases intricate animal and floral designs, reminiscent of the Tran Dynasty’s artistic style. Recognized as a National Historical Monument, it adds to the cultural richness of Hanoi.
