This renowned opera, having witnessed tremendous global success, is now making its debut in Vietnam, where it will be performed in its entirety for the very first time.
Based on the original work by Italian composer Francesco Maria Piave, the opera is an adaptation of the novel ‘La Dame aux Camélias’ (1848) by the celebrated French writer Alexandre Dumas. It narrates the tale of Violetta, a French courtesan during the 19th century, an era characterized by the harsh treatment of women, denying them ownership of property, access to education, and a respectable standing in society.
The Vietnamese production will feature exceptional soloists, including To Loan, Lan Nhung, Truong Linh, Thanh Binh, and Huy Duc, alongside talented artists from the Vietnam National Opera & Ballet, the VNOB Belcanto Chorus, and the Hanoi Voices International Choir.
Beverly Blankenship, the director of the opera, expressed her excitement about staging “La Traviata” for the first time. She hopes that Vietnamese audiences will be captivated by this world-class musical masterpiece, evoking strong emotions and leaving a lasting impression.
Phan Manh Duc, the director of the VNOB, highlighted that this opera performance marks a significant milestone, celebrating one year since the Ho Guom Opera’s inauguration.
