Laos-Vietnam Friendship Festival

55 years ago, after the Geneva Accord on Laos was signed, Vietnam and Laos agreed to establish diplomatic relations on September 5, 1962, opening up a new chapter in the cause of further consolidating and developing bilateral relations. They recently celebrated the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the bilateral Treaty on Amity and Cooperation. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with Son La province organised the second culture, sports and tourism festival in the Vietnam-Laos border area highlighting the special solidarity and friendship between the two countries in the northern province of Son La, which borders two northern Lao provinces.

In the interview given to Vietnam News Agency’s report in Laos, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith stressed the need to step up bilateral relations, which he described as a valuable common asset of the two nations.

Regarding the Vietnam-Laos special relationship, Sisoulith said Laos and Vietnam are close neighbours which stood side by side in their long-term struggle against invaders to win national independence in the past as well as work together in their current national construction and defence.

The Lao people are pleased to find that the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, built by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane and fostered by successive generations of the two Parties, two States and two peoples, have been continuously consolidated and developed.

The two nations should continue working closely to move ties forward, thus expanding friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two Parties, Governments and people in the future.
