After President Ho Chi Minh passed away on September 2, 1969, the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat decided to build Ho Chi Minh Museum one year later. Since its opening on President Ho’s 100th birth anniversary on May 19, 1990, the museum has become a popular destination for visitors to Hanoi along with the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Presidential Palace Relic Area.

More than 17,000 documents, articles, photos and exhibits about President Ho Chi Minh are archived at the museum. The museum’s library holds more than 6,000 books and around 26,000 articles about President Ho that have been published in many local and national magazines and newspapers.

“Over the past 50 years, the museum has organized hundreds of seminars and talks while conducting research to verify materials related to the life and revolutionary career of President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese people,” Dr. Vu Manh Ha, Director of the museum, told VOV.

The museum has also been tasked with promoting the Party’s guidelines and President Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts among Vietnamese people and foreign visitors, according to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Ta Quang Dong.

“In the past 5 decades, the museum has fulfilled its mission of conducting research, collecting materials and artifacts, and organizing displays to best promote President Ho Chi Minh to the public both in and outside Vietnam. The museum has also been very active in promoting a national campaign on studying and following President Ho’s moral example and lifestyle,” said Mr. Dong.

Nguyen Thi Hong Hanh, a visitor from Hanoi, said: “The museum is a place for young people to better understand and study President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example and lifestyle. This is a great place to educate people about patriotism and our predecessors’ revolutionary traditions. The museum receives many visitors daily, both young and old. It has the most adequate materials and artifacts about President Ho Chi Minh.”

Ho Chi Minh museum has worked with museums worldwide, including those from Russia, China, Laos, France, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Israel to conduct joint research and seek ways to better preserve materials and relics related to where President Ho Chi Minh had lived, as well as further introduce them to international friends.

Since its opening, the museum has welcomed more 30 million visitors, including nearly 7 million foreigners, many of whom are senior leaders.  VOV5
