Nestled amidst the mountainous terrain of Sung La Commune, Dong Van District, lies the picturesque village of Lao Xa, home to the Mong ethnic group.
Embarking on a winding road that leads to this hidden gem, visitors are enveloped in a refreshing blanket of fog and invigorating mountain air. Upon arrival, travelers are greeted with warm hospitality by Vang Mi Hong, the owner of the village’s first homestay. Guests are welcomed with steaming cups of coffee to savor.
In addition to the warm welcome, visitors are treated to a tantalizing feast prepared by Hong. Fragrant rice accompanied by an array of local delicacies such as stir-fried cabbage, noodles, grilled pork, fried eggs, and chewy dried buffalo meat fill the table, delighting the taste buds. Hong proudly shares that his home, now transformed into a cozy homestay, has witnessed the passage of three generations and stands as a testament to the village’s rich history.
Clione, a tourist from France, expresses her admiration for Hong’s culinary skills, praising the flavors and authenticity of the dishes. She is overjoyed by the warm reception and the opportunity to connect with friendly locals.
After experiencing the melodic sounds of the traditional musical instrument known as ‘khen’ – an iconic symbol of the Mong culture – Clione is eager to try her hand at playing it. With surprising ease, she adapts to the instrument, producing harmonious tunes.
“The fresh and serene atmosphere here invigorates me,” remarks Bui Thi Thom, a traveler from Hanoi.
Ha Giang Province, she continues, boasts not only breathtaking landscapes but also the exceptional hospitality of its people. Clione, having arrived in the province days prior, had embarked on a bicycle journey to the village. “This is a truly remarkable place,” she enthuses. “My companions and I have been met with unwavering support from the locals throughout our travels. They are incredibly helpful.”
Her enthusiasm for Ha Giang Province is evident as she declares, “I will certainly return. This land has captivated me, and I am eager to share its beauty with my friends and plan future visits.”
