According to the Da Nang Department of Tourism, Indonesia, the fourth-largest country by population in the world with over 280 million citizens, is considered a potential tourism market for Da Nang, Vietnam. The department’s tourism promotion agency is focusing on diversifying its source markets, particularly targeting Muslim nations. In recent times, Da Nang has introduced various tourism products to the Indonesian market and prioritized offering Halal options at accommodations and venues for Muslim tourists. Furthermore, Da Nang International Airport has opened a prayer room for Muslim guests. At a seminar titled ‘Solutions for Attracting Indonesian Travelers and Promoting Routes from Indonesia to Da Nang,’ Pauline Suharno, chair of the Indonesian Travel Agents Association (ASTINDO), mentioned that domestic and international flights in Indonesia have recovered to over 90% of their capacity since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Indonesian travel demand is high, with a majority of travelers preferring to explore new tourist destinations and avail high-end tourism services. During the seminar, 35 ASTINDO members, who are currently participating in a Familiarization (FAM) trip in Da Nang till Friday, discussed solutions to maximize the usage of flights connecting Indonesia and Vietnam, along with plans to establish direct air routes between both countries and Da Nang. The guests on the trip have visited several tourist sites in Da Nang, experienced various tourism products and services, and learned about the city’s tourism potential.
