Artist Bui Dinh Hac Passes Away, Earns Title of People’s Artist

The nation and his family mourn the passing of a beloved figure, whose absence will be deeply felt.

Bui Dinh Hac, a movie director and People’s Artist, passed away on July 1 at the age of 89 in Hanoi.

The director had been bravely battling stroke and respiratory diseases for several years until that fateful day, revealed his devoted son, director Bui Trung Hai.

He is renowned as one of the pioneers of Vietnamese revolutionary cinematography.

During his illustrious 50-year career, Director Hac worked on a multitude of astounding documentary and feature films.

He was awarded the title of People’s Artist (First Class) in 1984. In 2007, he was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Art for outstanding contributions to Vietnamese cinema.

Throughout his illustrious career, director Bui Dinh Hac has cemented himself as one of the most prominent and accomplished directors in the Vietnamese film industry.

From 2002 to 2005, the motion picture represented Vietnam at many major international film festivals, including Locarno in Switzerland, Fukuoka in Japan, Cairo in Egypt, Vesoul in France, and Fajr in Iran.

NDO – The Vietnam Association of Film Promotion and Development (VFDA) chaired by Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan organised a ceremony from October 3 to 12 at the 24 Busan International Film Festival to introduce the functions, tasks, and the role of the association and contemporary Vietnamese cinema.
