The Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra is set to captivate audiences with a special classical concert, “Lalo – Stravinsky,” on September 19 at the Hanoi Opera House. This performance holds a deeper purpose as it aims to support the victims of Typhoon Yagi, which recently swept through Vietnam, leaving a trail of devastation.
Meritorious Artist Trinh Tung Linh, Director of the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO), shared the artists’ noble intention behind this concert. “We want to use music as a powerful medium to unite people and foster a sense of community, especially in times of hardship,” he said. With this in mind, a portion of the ticket sales and audience donations will be dedicated to providing relief to those affected by the typhoon.
The concert program has been carefully curated to include a diverse range of musical pieces. Kicking off the evening will be a special performance of ‘Return to Motherland,’ a composition by the renowned Vietnamese composer Nguyen Van Thuong. This moving piece, with its strong national resonance and lyrical poignancy, is expected to touch the hearts of the audience and convey the artists’ solidarity with those affected by Typhoon Yagi.
Japanese conductor Honna Tetsuji, who will be leading the orchestra, brings a wealth of experience and passion to the stage. Cellist Luu Ly Ly and pianist Nguyen Thai Ha, alongside the talented members of the VNSO, promise to deliver a memorable performance.
The concert will feature two iconic pieces: Edouard Lalo’s Cello Concerto in D Minor, making its Vietnam premiere, and Igor Stravinsky’s captivating ‘Petrushka’ (1947 version). With a mix of classical masterpieces and Vietnamese compositions, the orchestra aims to create a truly exceptional and meaningful musical experience.
As the artists dedicate their talents to perfecting the program, they invite the community to join them in this unique musical journey. Through their performance, they hope to not only showcase their artistic excellence but also contribute to a worthy cause, making a difference in the lives of those impacted by Typhoon Yagi.
Mark your calendars for an evening of exquisite music and compassion as the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra presents “Lalo – Stravinsky.” Together, let us embrace the healing power of art and extend a helping hand to those in need.
