Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations congratulated Caitlin Wiesen on completing a successful term in Vietnam. She highly appreciated Wiesen’s contributions to the Vietnam – United Nations cooperation and Vietnam’s success in the journey towards sustainable development and its cause to build a prosperous and happy country.

During her working term, Caitlin Wiesen has been at the forefront of accelerating Sustainable development goals (SDGs) implementation, leading the UNDP team in many activities toward the implementation of the SDGs. UNDP Vietnam, under the leadership of Wiesen and in collaboration with Vietnamese agencies and partners, has successfully implemented the National Program 2017-2021 and developed the National Program 2022-2026, which points out strategic directions for development cooperation between UNDP and Vietnamese agencies.

Wiesen has led UNDP to support Vietnam as ASEAN Chair in 2020 and as UNSC non-permanent member in 2020-2021, promoting Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations, women’s empowerment, and in raising awareness of the United Nations and significant contributions made by Vietnam toward the work of the United Nations among the young people in Vietnam.
Since the early days of the Covid-19, Caitlin Wiesen has led UNDP in assisting Vietnam to respond to the pandemic in four areas: strengthening the health system, revitalizing the green economy, providing social protection, and digital transformation.

Weisen expressed her gratitute to VUFO and Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga for their strong commitment and collaboration with UNDP in promoting peace, solidarity, friendship, multilateralism and practical people to people cooperation – key to Sustainable Development Goals.
“I am honored and humbled to receive this medal for Peace and Friendship among Nations. This noble ward is not just for me but important work of colleagues from VUFO, MOFA, and UNDP over the past five years,” she said.
Caitlin Wiesen believes that the good cooperation between UNDP and VUFO, and between the United Nations and Vietnam will further develop. She affirmed that UNDP would continue to cooperate with VUFO in the coming time.

Caitlin Wiesen led the UNDP Viet Nam team to contribute to the development of the National Action Plan for Agenda 2030 on SDGs implementation.
