The endless purple field on the top of Ta Chi Nhu Mountain in the Northwest of Vietnam

The Ta Chi Nhu Mountain (aka Mount Phu Song Sung) in Tram Tau District of Yen Bai Province, which is 2,979m above sea level, is the 6th highest mountain peak in Vietnam.

The best time to climb Ta Chi Nhu is from November to early April. If you want to take photos of an ocean of clouds at the mountain peak, then you may want to take the trip from November through the first half of March. It is freezing cold from late November through early February.

As soon as finishing the steep hill, you will see endless Chi Pau flowers blooming on the ground. They usually fully blossom from October to November. Local people often say that the purple flower is the gift that nature bestows on them.
Before the year completes, the Northwestern mountains become busy due to numerous visits of nature-lovers who are interested in enjoy the picturesque purple sight in the chilly weather.

The rugged topography stimulates visitors to climb up to watch the charming landscapes and chasing white clouds. Only if you visit Ta Chi Nhu will you realize how magical the site is. What a gorgeous picture!
In the language of the Mong ethnic people – the inhabitants living around the mountain, Chi Pau means ‘I have no idea’ or ‘I don’t understand.’ In spite of the meaningless name, the lovely flower attracts countless visitors who are curious to see the seductive features of Chi Pau blossoms.

Its color is lighter than the lavender flower’s as if it is a mixture of purple and white. When the winter arrives, the flower builds small bunches stretching throughout the whole hillside. From a distance, the giant purple carpet hanging over fluffy white clouds promises to touch the hearts of every tourist.

Apart from the spectacular flower spanning, the way leading to the Ta Chi Nhu peak impresses visitors. The only way for beginners to reach the top is to follow the footprints of previous climbers. Clearly, it is a big challenge due to twisty bends and vertical steeps. However, the scene of green forests and purple blossoms will blow away your tiredness immediately. And you will find your efforts to climb up is worth it.
