Da Nang is set to host a vibrant cultural festival, ‘Da Nang-Republic of Korea Week’, from August 16 to 18 at the Bien Dong (East Sea) Park. This exciting event promises to showcase the best of both cultures with a range of performances, exhibitions, and activities.

According to the city’s Department of Foreign Affairs, the opening ceremony will feature art troupes from Da Nang and the Republic of Korea (RoK), as well as a Taekwondo demonstration by students from Keimyung University. The Honam Women’s Nongak troupe, a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage from the RoK, will also grace the stage with their traditional instrument performance and Korean arts.

Prior to the opening ceremony, an exhibition and 60 pavilions will be open to visitors, offering a plethora of cultural experiences. These include a Korean food contest, Hanbok and Vietnamese long dress trials, folk games, a Taekwondo experience, talent showcases, and a K-Pop random dance performance. There will also be spaces dedicated to promoting trade, export, education, and tourism, with companies from both countries participating.

The program also includes a conference on potential cooperation and development in ICT between the RoK and Vietnam, as well as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on fishery development between Da Nang’s fishery association and the Jeju fishery trade cooperative.

The festival underscores the strong ties between the two countries, with Uiwang city, Gyeonggi, RoK, and Da Nang’s Hai Chau district having signed an MoU on cooperation and friendship last year. Additionally, six universities from Korea signed agreements with Da Nang’s Dong A University, and five Korean cities – Changwon, Daegu, Hwaseong, Seoul, and Jeju – officially established friendship ties with Da Nang.

Da Nang’s tourism department is also promoting the city to South Korean tourists with the ‘Enjoy Da Nang Again’ program, aiming to attract even more visitors from South Korea. With 822,000 Korean tourists having visited Da Nang in the first half of this year, accounting for 41% of international visitors, the city is well on its way to becoming a top destination for Korean travelers.

To cater to this growing market, Hana Tour, a Korean travel agency, will introduce a golf tournament, showcasing Da Nang’s pristine beaches and ocean-front golf courses. Korean airlines have also resumed flights to Da Nang, making it easier than ever to explore this vibrant city.
