Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos, Nguyen Ba Hung. A visionary diplomat committed to strengthening Vietnam-Laos ties.

Ambassador, the Dien Bien Phu victory holds historical significance for Vietnam and Laos. How can we promote and apply its lessons to develop our nations and enhance the relationship between our countries?

The Dien Bien Phu victory is of paramount importance in the national liberation struggle of the Indochinese countries, particularly Vietnam and Laos. Following this triumph, the Geneva Agreement was signed, ensuring respect for the independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. This laid a crucial legal foundation for the independence and national unity of the Indochinese nations.

The historical lesson of solidarity among the Indochinese peoples, especially between Vietnam and Laos, remains relevant today. To uphold this tradition, we must disseminate the lessons and determination of the Dien Bien Phu campaign and the Vietnam-Laos alliance. We should promote unity, international solidarity, and creative problem-solving to overcome challenges, drawing on our strengths and the support of brotherly countries and international friends.

Moving forward, Vietnam and Laos should prioritize patriotism, self-reliance, and innovation. We must connect theory with practice, adapt to changing realities, and continuously develop theoretical creativity. By staying agile and responsive, we can innovate and adapt policies to build a brighter future for our nations.

Additionally, we must deepen political relations, uphold high-level agreements, and preserve cooperation mechanisms between our senior leaders. It is essential to raise awareness of the special relationship between our countries and enhance economic cooperation. By expanding infrastructure, establishing cooperative mechanisms, and promoting innovative solutions, we can unlock the potential of our bilateral partnership and attract investment.

Our shared history is a source of pride, and we must continue to nurture the Vietnam-Laos relationship. With the guidance of our senior leaders and the dedication of our organizations, we are confident in a prosperous future for both nations, bound by an enduring and sustainable solidarity.

What is the significance of the Dien Bien Phu victory in educating today’s youth?

The Dien Bien Phu victory, even after 70 years, remains a powerful tool for educating our people, especially the younger generation. It showcases the power of comprehensive, inclusive warfare, where the entire nation united to overcome a formidable enemy. This victory embodies the spirit of patriotism, determination, and self-reliance, inspiring us to forge our path with creativity and resilience.

The triumph at Dien Bien Phu not only shaped our history but also guides our present and future. It serves as a source of national pride and motivation for the youth to actively contribute to building and defending our beloved homeland.

On this momentous occasion, what message would you like to convey to the people of Laos and Vietnam?

The revolutions of Laos and Vietnam are closely intertwined, and our Communist Parties share a common origin. Together, we have achieved national liberation and unification, and we continue to forge ahead on the path to socialism. As our countries develop and integrate globally, we face challenges and opportunities. Let us embrace the spirit of the Dien Bien Phu victory and our shared victories, strengthening our friendship and solidarity.

By standing united, we can support each other’s growth and maintain peace, stability, and development in our region and beyond. Our nations’ special relationship is an example of enduring friendship and mutual respect, and I am confident that, together, we will create a brighter future.
