Introducing the Local Culture of Hoi An Ancient Town to Japanese Tourists

The Hoi An delegation showcased a plethora of art performances steeped in local heritage at the Fenice Sakai Theater and the Vietnam Festival in Osaka, Japan.

“Hoi An Night at Sakai” takes place on April 26 at Fenice Sakai Theater (Sakai, Japan). The program is organized by Hoi An, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Osaka, the Sakai government, the International Exchange Association, and the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association of Sakai.

The performers introduced to the Japanese public an art program imbued with Hoi An’s cultural colors such as a national musical instrument ensemble, folk singing, folk dance, and traditional card game. The artists tell touching stories about a poetic and nostalgic Hoi An, giving visitors unforgettable feelings.

The delegation also introduced tourism information and services of Hoi An. They organized the display of lanterns and handicraft products to introduce culture, destinations, discovery programs, entertainment, and traditional craft villages… thereby attracting tourists to Hoi An.

The delegation also participated in the second Vietnam Festival in Osaka in 2024. This is one of the major events jointly organized by the Vietnamese Consulate General in Osaka on April 27-28, attracting more than 100,000 visitors. The delegation brought art programs imbued with the indigenous culture of Hoi An ancient town and booths introducing tourism information and services of the city. Handicraft products made by famous artisans of Hoi An traditional craft villages were also introduced to customers.

According to representatives of the Hoi An delegation, the program “Hoi An Night at Sakai” and the presence at the Vietnam Festival in Osaka contribute to bringing to the people of Sakai and Osaka in particular and Japanese people and tourists, Vietnamese community in Japan images of a beautiful, friendly, creative Hoi An; strengthen the connection, affection and mutual understanding between the people of the two cities; Contributing to the friendly and diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.

Hoi An, an international trading port at the end of the 16th century, has preserved historical marks, relics, and cultural exchange with Japan. In Hoi An, the Japanese Bridge has a deep imprint of Japanese culture.

Hoi An organizes the annual Hoi An – Japan Cultural Exchange program with the participation of Japanese localities, organizations, and individuals. In 2014, the 12th event was held in Sakai City. 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of this event.
