Located some 180 kilometers northwest of Hanoi, the Moc Chau Plateau in Son La province, northern Vietnam, is widely known for its delicious Japanese plum fruit, or Prunus salicina. With approximately 1,300 hectares of plum orchards, it is recognized as the largest plum-growing area in the region. The bountiful harvest of this savory fruit, along with the presence of beautiful flowers, significantly contributes to the local economy.
The presence of the plum trees also helps to boost tourism in the area. As the first rays of spring sunlight appear, the entire Moc Chau plateau is adorned with pure white plum blossoms. This natural spectacle makes it one of the most sought-after destinations during the Lunar New Year celebrations.
The Moc Chau plateau offers breathtaking vistas during spring, particularly in the Na Ka and Mu Nau valleys, which are home to the largest plum plantations. Early in the spring, the flowers emerge, each with a two-centimeter diameter, five white petals, and arranged in clusters of three.
